OUR SCORE

How we rate them

Our own assessment, not a user rating — four criteria at 25% each, scored against each issuer's published terms. See the scoring model.

Editorial scores for the Nexo Card and the Wirex One Card
CriterionNexo CardWirex One Card
Overall3.8 / 54.2 / 5
Cost 25%4.5No monthly, annual or inactivity fee; FX is 0.2% on weekdays and 0.7% at weekends in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, with a free ATM allowance.5.0No monthly, annual or card fee, 0.35% FX (confirmed by Wirex) and a free monthly ATM allowance.
Conditions 25%4.0Cashback needs a $5,000 balance, and Gold's 1% needs about 5% of the portfolio in NEXO. Cashback is only paid in Credit Mode.3.7Elite's 3% needs a $2,500 balance with 3% held in WPAY — nothing locked. The advertised 8% needs $50,000, more than twice the scored rate.
Rewards 25%2.5Gold pays 1% — about $15 at $1,500 spend — in NEXO tokens; the BTC option pays much less.4.5Elite pays 3% in USD — about $45 at $1,500 spend, well within its $300 monthly redemption cap.
Reliability 25%4.0Long-running platform with clear, published card terms.3.5Wirex has been operating since 2014, and its team kindly confirmed the current FX fee (0.35%) for us. This score reflects one detail on its public pages that hasn't caught up yet: the card page and help centre still describe FX as free. We'll happily review this score once those pages are updated.
Nexo Card

Nexo Card is a strong crypto card for users who already hold significant assets on Nexo. It combines Credit and Debit modes, up to 2% cashback in NEXO or 0.5% in BTC, useful ATM allowances and no monthly, annual or inactivity fees. However, the $5,000 balance requirement and NEXO portfolio requirements for higher rewards significantly raise the barrier to entry, while FX fees vary by region and day. Overall, Nexo earns 3.8/5 for its strong rewards and mature product, but its eligibility requirements prevent it from reaching the top tier.

Wirex One Card

Wirex One is a strong all-in-one crypto card with up to 8% USD cashback, self-custody, no monthly membership fee and broad banking functionality. Its biggest weakness is the requirements for higher membership tiers, which require substantial portfolio balances and WPAY holdings. The cashback redemption limits also restrict how quickly large rewards can be withdrawn, although unused rewards roll forward. Overall, Wirex One earns 4.1/5 for combining unusually strong rewards and features with meaningful tier requirements.

THE SHORT VERSION

How they actually differ

  • Nexo Card is a hybrid card while Wirex One Card is a debit card — that changes how you fund it, not just what it pays.

  • Nexo Card runs on Mastercard; Wirex One Card runs on Visa/Mastercard.
