Fold Replaces Fold+ With Fold Reserve: What the Debit Card Pays Now
Fold has dropped its Fold+ membership. Debit card rewards now start at 0.25% in bitcoin and reach 3% only with $100,000 held in Fold Reserve.
Fold has replaced its paid Fold+ membership with Fold Reserve, a rewards programme based on a balance you hold with Fold. Its terms dropped Fold+ in the version effective 21 September 2026, and the version effective 1 October 2026 sets the rates for the Fold debit card: 0.25% back in bitcoin as standard, rising in steps to 3% for members holding $100,000 in Fold Reserve.
Fold is moving accounts over in stages. Until Reserve appears in your Fold app, its terms say the rewards and fees in the previous version, dated 14 August 2026, still apply to your account.
What Fold Reserve is
Fold describes Reserve as prepaid value that you buy from Fold and use inside the app. It can be redeemed for bitcoin or for gift cards, and by buying and immediately selling bitcoin it can be moved to your Fold checking balance. It is bought in units of up to $2,000, with a limit of five units and $10,000 a day.
Fold's FAQ lists what it is not: not a savings account, not a deposit account, not a subscription and not staking. It pays no interest and is not FDIC-insured. Fold's terms add that money paid for Reserve becomes Fold's property rather than being held in a separate account, so a holder would rank as a general unsecured creditor if Fold became insolvent. Fold says Reserve is meant for money you plan to use in the near term, not for long-term savings.
Debit card rates by Reserve balance
- Below $15,000, including no Reserve at all: 0.25%
- $15,000: 0.5%
- $25,000: 1%
- $50,000: 1.5%
- $75,000: 2%
- $100,000: 3%
The 0.25% base rate has no cap and needs no balance. The higher rates apply to the first $5,000 of eligible purchases each calendar month; spending above that earns the base rate. Rewards are paid in bitcoin and can be withdrawn 30 days after a purchase settles.
Reserve also pays rewards on bills paid by bank transfer, which Fold presents as its main attraction: 0.25% from a $5,000 balance, rising to 3% at $100,000, again on the first $5,000 a month.
Fees with and without Reserve
- ATM withdrawal: $3.50, or nothing with $5,000 or more in Reserve
- Foreign card purchase: $3.00 each, or nothing with $5,000 or more
- Buying and selling bitcoin: a 1% fee plus Fold's spread, or no fee and no Fold spread with $5,000 or more. A spread from Fold's exchange partner remains at every level.
- Sending bitcoin on-chain: you pay the network fee, or Fold pays it with $5,000 or more
- Instant debit deposits and withdrawals: 1.5%, not waived at any tier
Fold notes that if your Reserve falls below $5,000, the fees return on the very next transaction.
Two cards, one boost
Fold has two cards, and they are separate products. The Fold Prepaid Debit Card, issued by Sutton Bank, is the one on our Fold Card page. The Fold Bitcoin Credit Card, issued by Celtic Bank, earns 1.5% as standard and up to 5% with a $100,000 Reserve balance.
A member earns the Reserve boost on only one of them. If you hold the credit card, the boost goes there and the debit card earns its 0.25% base rate.
What it means in practice
This is our arithmetic on Fold's published rates.
Because the higher rates stop at $5,000 of spending a month, the most the debit card can return at the 3% top tier is $150 a month, in exchange for keeping $100,000 in a balance that pays no interest. At $15,000 the 0.5% rate returns at most $25 a month.
For a typical cardholder without a large Reserve, the base rate is the realistic figure: 0.25% on $1,500 of monthly spending is $3.75 in bitcoin. The card suits people who want bitcoin rewards from a US-issued debit card and already keep money with Fold, more than people looking for a high cashback rate. Our crypto cashback cards page compares the alternatives.

Common questions
Is Fold+ still available?
No. Fold removed the Fold+ membership from its terms in the version effective 21 September 2026 and replaced it with Fold Reserve. Reserve is reaching accounts in stages; until it appears in your app, Fold says the rewards and fees in its 14 August 2026 terms still apply to your account.
Is Fold Reserve a savings account?
No. Fold describes it as prepaid value bought from Fold. It pays no interest, is not a deposit and is not FDIC-insured. It can be redeemed for bitcoin or gift cards, and Fold's terms say it cannot be withdrawn directly as cash.
How much Fold Reserve do I need to earn more on the debit card?
$15,000 for 0.5%, rising to 3% at $100,000, on the first $5,000 of purchases each month. A $5,000 balance does not raise the rate, but it waives the $3.50 ATM fee, the $3.00 foreign purchase fee and Fold's 1% bitcoin trading fee.
