Krak Raises Its US Cashback Thresholds: 2% Now Needs a $150,000 Balance
Since 15 October 2026, US Krak cardholders need a $1,000 average balance for any cashback and $150,000 for 2%. A new 1.75% tier sits at $75,000.
Kraken has published the new cashback tiers for the US version of its Krak card. They took effect on 15 October 2026, and every tier now needs a larger balance than before.
The new US tiers
Your rate is set by your 30-day average balance across Krak, Kraken and Kraken Pro, assessed once a day:
- Starter, under $1,000: 0%
- Lite, $1,000 or more: 1%
- Pro, $10,000 or more: 1.5%
- Elite, $75,000 or more: 1.75%
- Max, $150,000 or more: 2%
Until 15 October the US card paid 0.5% from $200, 1% from $1,000, 1.5% from $10,000 and 2% from $50,000. The 0.5% step is gone, and Elite at 1.75% is new.
New cardholders still get the top tier for their first 30 days, and Kraken says there are "currently no monthly caps or earning limits". Cashback is paid in US dollars or bitcoin, at the rate that applies when the merchant settles the purchase.
Who is affected
- Balances under $1,000 now earn nothing, where $200 to $999 earned 0.5%.
- $1,000 to $49,999: no change. You earn 1% or 1.5% as before.
- $50,000 to $74,999: down from 2% to 1.5%.
- $75,000 to $149,999: down from 2% to 1.75%.
The UK and EEA card is unchanged
The UK and EEA Krak Card keeps its own table: 0.5% from £200 or €200, 1% from £1,000 or €1,000, 1.5% from £10,000 or €10,000 and 2% from £50,000 or €50,000. The two regions now use the same tier names at different rates: Pro, for example, pays 1.5% in the US and 1% in the UK and EEA. Our card page shows the UK and EEA table and lists the US tiers separately.
The US card is a Visa debit card issued by Lead Bank and is not offered in New York, Maine, Massachusetts or Indiana. We first reported the change in our mid-October round-up, before Kraken had published the figures.

Common questions
What are the new US Krak Card cashback tiers?
Starter pays 0% below a $1,000 average balance, Lite 1% from $1,000, Pro 1.5% from $10,000, Elite 1.75% from $75,000 and Max 2% from $150,000. The balance is the 30-day average across Krak, Kraken and Kraken Pro, assessed once a day.
Did the UK and EEA Krak Card change too?
No. The UK and EEA table still pays 0.5% from £200 or €200, 1% from £1,000 or €1,000, 1.5% from £10,000 or €10,000 and 2% from £50,000 or €50,000. The tier names are the same in both regions, but the rates and thresholds are not.
Is there still a cap on Krak cashback?
No. Kraken says there are currently no monthly caps or earning limits, in the US or in the UK and EEA. New cardholders get the top tier for their first 30 days before their own balance decides the rate.
