Solid Adds a Euro Balance: No FX Fee on Euro Purchases for Wirex-Issued Cards

From 9 October 2026, Solid cards issued by Wirex pay euro purchases from a EURC balance, or from soUSD in Credit mode, with no FX fee. Rain cards are not.

Solid launched a euro balance for its card on 9 October 2026. Cardholders whose card is issued by Wirex can now pay purchases charged in euros with no FX fee, either from a balance held in EURC or from soUSD with Credit mode on. Cards issued by Rain, which include every Solid card in the United States, are not part of it for now.

Until today the Solid Card settled everything in US dollars. A euro purchase cost 2% in total on the free Core tier, 1.5% on Prime and 1% on Ultra: a 1% fee from the card provider plus Solid's own FX fee.

Two ways to pay euros with no FX fee

Solid's fee page, updated the same day, sets out both.

  • From a euro balance. You enable it on the card page and fund it with EURC, a euro stablecoin, sent on the Base network. The deposit is free. When the balance covers the whole purchase, Solid takes exactly that amount in euros: "A €15.00 purchase takes €15.00."
  • From soUSD with Credit mode on. No EURC is needed. You hold soUSD in Savings, switch the card to Credit mode, and euro purchases are covered from your soUSD while the savings keep earning. Solid says Credit mode follows its own collateral and borrowing rules, shown in the app.

If you use both, the euro balance is used first and Credit mode covers the rest.

The rules that decide whether you pay a fee

  • The merchant has to charge in euros. A purchase in pounds, kronor or any other currency is converted by the card network at the provider's rate, with the FX fee, "even on a euro card".
  • The euro balance must cover the whole amount. If it cannot, "even by a cent", and Credit mode is off, the whole purchase is paid from your dollar balance at the rate at the time of payment. Solid says one purchase is never split between the two balances.
  • Refunds return in dollars. A refund comes back to your dollar balance as USDC, valued at the rate the purchase was charged at, even if you paid from the euro balance.

Cashback is not affected. Solid says euro purchases earn the same cashback as any other eligible purchase, by Rewards tier.

Who gets it

Solid says euro cards are available on cards issued by Wirex, which covers every EU and EEA member state, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the other Wirex countries. We covered Solid's move onto Wirex in September. Cards issued by Rain are excluded "for now".

The quickest check is the card page in the app: if it shows "Enable EURC spending", the card is eligible.

What is not there yet

  • Euro bank transfers still land in the dollar balance. For now the euro balance can only be funded with EURC on Base.
  • Yield on the euro balance is announced but not live. Solid says it will be announced in the app.

This is the third change to the card in a fortnight, after the new tier rules and category cashback. Unlike those, it lowers a cost and asks nothing of the cardholder in return.

Common questions

Who can use Solid's euro balance?

Cardholders whose Solid card is issued by Wirex. Solid says that covers every EU and EEA member state, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the other Wirex countries. Cards issued by Rain, including those in the United States, are not included for now. If your card page shows “Enable EURC spending”, you are eligible.

Is every euro purchase free of the FX fee?

Only when the merchant charges you in euros and your euro balance covers the whole amount, or Credit mode is on with enough soUSD. If the euro balance falls short, even by a cent, and Credit mode is off, the whole purchase is paid from your dollar balance and the usual FX fee applies. Purchases in other currencies are unchanged.

How do I fund the euro balance on a Solid card?

With EURC, the euro stablecoin, sent on the Base network to your Solid wallet address. Solid says the deposit is free and other networks are not supported. Euro bank transfers still arrive in your dollar balance, so they cannot fund the euro balance yet.
